According to my info BMW are moving towards hard folding roofs.
Same case with Z4.
Just like in E93 case both variants - canvas & metal roofs - will be tested, and canvas will be chosen only in the case of significant advantage over the metal roof (hint: weight & space). Otherwise folding metal roofs are coming.
In E93 case metal roof was "good enough". We will see if this is also to be the case with E89 Z4 roadster & F13 6er cabrio.
Have in mind that also in E64 development case metal folding roof was planned, but then ditched due not enough space in the rear (at defined dimesions). In the case of metal roof rear suspension would need complete redesign & re-engineering, but that would be just to expensive. Or the other solution: re-styling & re-engineering of the rear - also too expensive, and rear would look just too high. So BMW opt for canvas in the end.
Yet the metal folding roof development has progressed in recent years, so such roofs when folded down need less space than ever. Meaning: good chances Z4 & new 6er cabrio will come with metal folding roof.
Still the question remains: will F13 6er be built in Dingolfing, or the production (or perhaps just the assembly) will be moved to Regensburg (in the case of metal roof)?
