It has to do with horsepower calculations differing. 343 hp is DIN whereas the 333 in the US is SAE horsepower. This is the same reason that the Bugatti's official horsepower in Europe is 1001 while it's 987 in the U.S. (although Bugatti has assured us that the cars will be in excess of 1000 no matter where you are).

WHAT'S GOING ON WITH THESE REAR LIGHTS? THIS IS MADNESS. THE CIRCULAR TAILLIGHTS WERE AN INTEGRAL PART OF THIS CAR'S PERSONALITY. I KNOW THE 'NEON TUBE' EFFECT IS COOL AND ALL, BUT WHAT THE HELL ARE THESE GUYS SMOKING?!

My faith in the authority is BMW design takes a big hit when I see this kind of bizarre revisionism. The Z4 Coupé concept had perfect looking taillights. Why they'd take a pass on what seemed like a natural progression of the design is beyond me. The rear of the car just looks naked now. Where semicircles belong there is instead a mash of busy shapes.

The taillights were never a sticking point for detractors of the Z4, so why do this? Did the brass insist on a design that would incorporate the light tube arrangement?

Not all that enthused about this Z4M either. I'll look forward to the reviews, but my heart just isn't in this.

Does anyone know why the car doesn't have any gills on the sides just like the rest of the M cars?

very good question. Maybe these pics are just to look at people's reactions. Lets hope there will be some changes when the car starts to sell.

The grills would be a nice touch, the car just looks so clean... i really like it . very sexy car!

We are on the same page Osna... wow I'm not feeling those real lights at all
