Re: Z4 E89 vs SLK vs Boxster vs TT: pics side by side

You should have used pictures of the current facelifted SLK to be a better comparison. 2 of the 4 pics are not of the facelift. I don't like the rear of the Z4... I would go current SLK with AMG package, TT, Z4, Boxster

Members here already have their favorites and a few pics of a facelift wouldnt change their opinion.

Re: Z4 E89 vs SLK vs Boxster vs TT: pics side by side

Just no contest. I love the Boxster, I've driven one, savoured the uniqueness of the experience, marvelled at the mechanical precision of the thing. And, with the top down it looks fantastic and a fella can get away with driving one without the hair clippers and mega-hold gel connotations. But... soft-top up, viewed dead side on, the Boxster looks like a bath-plug. Or a puffy nipple. Yes, top up, it loses something, in exactly the same way that a Carrera GT with roof in place looks like a SEMA'd pick-up truck when viewed from the same side-on angle.

The new Z4 suffers none of this affliction, thanks to its cab-backward design. It's gorgeous, and, with twin-turbo straight six option, dynamically impossible to overlook. It's the daddy of the segment now.

SLK, I'd rather walk around a mall in pink Hello Kitty socks.

TT? Yeah, whatever... [attempts to indicate a complete lack of emotive appeal]

Re: Z4 E89 vs SLK vs Boxster vs TT: pics side by side

My humble opinion:

- The TT is not a real car, or not a car at all, therefore it won't be mentioned further.
- The SLK doesn't count neither
- The Z4 is an excellent engineering piece and a beautiful car
- The Boxster is the surgeon's tool and wins this hands down also because driving it is amazing, even to 911 drivers.

martinbo, regarding hairdresser's allegations, not that it's important, but you haven't heard how 911 owners will diss the boxster just the same if not more than the others

Re: Z4 E89 vs SLK vs Boxster vs TT: pics side by side

It is hard to not choose the Z4 as the most vibrant and imposing of these 4.

The design flows from all direction unlike the other three that seems to have some sort of weakness when viewed from a particular angle.

Front View
The Z4 have a stronger presence of the 4 cars here. It is the most visually appealing IMHO. I am saying this not because it is the newest of the bunch but because it is most cohesive of them all.
The front of the car gives it a character that is uniquely BMW: agile, bold, dynamic and modern. Very progressive.

Rating:
1. Z4
2. TT
3. Boxter
4. SLK

Side View

The side tells an interesting story.
With the top down, it is hard to pick a clear winner here but I still had to go with the Z4 based on its stance. The upright stance of the Z4 stand from the front to back, is akin to someone that is sure of him/herself: exudes confidence. Maybe it is the newness factor again, but it does have strong personality that I am sure alot of guys will find appealing.

With the Top up, the story is the same. I have to admit that the Boxter mid-engine layout becomes apparent, whilst the TT for some inexplicable reason seems to be in no-mans land. Both the SLK and Z4 stand out clearly as front mounted engines.

Rating:
1. Z4
2. Boxter
3. SLK
4. TT

Rear View

The rear view just like the front view have the Z4 excelling above the competition. Again the uprightness wins me over because of the presence it conveys.

Rating:
1. Z4
2. SLK
3. TT
4. Boxter

In summary, I would say the Z4 is a more fluid design that commands a very strong presence imho.

Why is everyone only talking about looks? spoiler this, bumper that, lights this, mirror that, what about drivability?

from this and the other thread for bangle, this appears to be a website of car exterior and interior designers.

Without even needing to think more than a milisecond...give me the Z4 PLEASE! That thing is gorgous and love it even more because it's a hard top. Most of you who know me know that I hate soft-tops.

Mike

Because in the drivability department nothing has changed for ages:

MB - the most comfortable car
Porsche - the sportiest car
BMW & Audi somewhere in between - BMW sportier, Audi more comfortable

First stages of judging something is by the looks

It's like meeting a really ugly woman but she has an amazing personality, or meeting a really hot blond but being boring as pig sh!t
