BTT, please.

We already had a lot (and enough) "is Scott and/or Eni really a insider?" postings here.

Enjoy them or ignore them. End of the story.

And now, could somebody please lift the curtain for the new Z4?

^^ No, we haven't.

Sometimes you guys make me want to bash my head into the wall. Scott has become the Nostradamus of GermanCarZone - with skeptics like myself and true believers who will continue to give him credit no matter how many times he strolls in here with non-information.

Are we really this stupid? I think the answer is yes.

Wasn't it obvious when he quoted copy from an old E39 commercial as possible copy for a 1er ad campaign that something wasn't right?

Wasn't it obvious when he suggested that there was a new, heretofore unseen product being unveiled in the "Moscow countdown" this year?

Isn't it obvious when he presents random photoshopped images with bad English like "Passion In Every Direction" as E89 marketing materials? Like... what the hell?

How about the promise of the M3 Touring that was going to be at Geneva '08?

How about the promise of a "polarizing" F01 design?

So I ask - What's wrong with you guys? People are actually paying attention to Scott's posts on GCZ and we look like complete idiots.

Is Scott really a BMW insider? Maybe. Is he a guy that just reads the trades and strings together plausible-sounding scenarios about the state of BMW product development? Maybe. Is he somebody tangentially connected to BMW through a media vendor? Could be.

It's not my intent to diss or pillory Scott. If he's truly who he claims to be then I'm first in line to apologize. I'm just basing my opinion on merits of the information he presents, and for the most part, it's been an amalgamation of conjecture and information that's publicly available or just plain off-target.

Please prove me wrong guys! If anybody here can provide me with an example where Scott divulged insider knowledge that turned out to be fact I'll gladly stick my foot in mouth and give him the benefit of the doubt.

Re: Next generation BMW Z4 E89 - part II (first FEP pics incl. !!!)

I've asked before, but could somebody please explain to me, just in a sentence or two what this 'creative marketing' thing is - is it actually a BMW marketing scheme? I have searched the forums for an answer many times, so I would appreciate it if someone could explain!

(Sorry for going off-topic, I'm aware this thread is about the new Z4!)

Many thanks

In the very nature of creative marketing is to not explain creative marketing phenomenon at all.

All I can say is: it's a gray area.

Re: Next generation BMW Z4 E89 - part II (first FEP pics incl. !!!)

There are consultancies that provide "viral / web2.0 / community-based" marketing. This is done by either establishing an online community, in an attempt to feed marketing messages under the disguise of an authentic, organic platform - or - is done by infiltrating actual online communities, with individuals spreading bread crumbs to pique interest. Sometimes this comes in the form of "leaked" spy pics or information about upcoming products.

This doesn't really help us much. If Eni (whom I have nothing but good will for, by the way) is actually on the clock here at GCZ, then why on earth would he out himself? Also, if Scott was doing the same, he's not really a good job, nor is he fishing in the right pond.

So all this intimation of "Creative Marketing" is just cause for even more confusion.

Let me add one more thing - As somebody who works in the automotive biz, I come across sensitive or embargoed information on a halfway regular basis and am fully aware that I would be shitcanned faster than a rabbit in a dog race if it came to light that I was spreading info via online forums like this one. But I also know that if I was my job to spread information, I sure as hell wouldn't cop to it.

Which leaves me back at square one.
