Re: Next generation BMW Z4 E89 - part II (first FEP pics incl. !!!)

So the car will have 4 different optimized engines:

3 Gasoline:

a 2.3 (in bmw typology, think 523i for example)
a 2.8
a 3.5

(the first ones to be available are the 2.8 and 3.5)

1 Diesel:

a 2.3

The car is meant to be the best of z3 + z4 pushed beyond the limits and dynamiquely efficienced.

And there's a lot of z3 winks and reminders:

- the engines: remember the z3 was introduced with a 2.2 and 2.8 liter (among others)
- the design: headlights turned up
- taillights shape
- brake light position
- side vents
- sharky look

It's a special answer to everyone who blamed the e85 to have gone far from the z3 which was a true popular success.

Ok there will be just a slight difference: The new Z4 price will just be the double of the z3 one !

Interesting... so, concerning to the displacement figures you gave, BMW obviously has 4 brand-new engines out of the box, nobody heard of before. You're not really into BMW, are you?

Of course they don't have 4 brand-new engines...

When I say 2.3 liter for example it's a shortcut to say it's an optimized engine that will be presented in BMW typology as a 2.3, I mean like the 523i, it's not really a 2.3 liter.

Re: Next generation BMW Z4 E89 - part II (first FEP pics incl. !!!)

i read somewhere on the internet (unreliable too), that the z4 was to receive the 3 series' current engines
what happened to that theory. Anyway I am not against a 2.8, which will probably be actually a 3.0 with maybe 250ps.
the 2.3 will be a 2.5 with 220 ps? i guess.

but what worries me, so why will the z4 be double the price of the z3? it's still a toy-like little roadster, it cannot afford to get near the price of a boxster (which will always burry it on a track and is a porsche) and it has to be cheaper than the slk, because mercedes are always more expensive.

so, sorry, but a toy has to cost like a toy and not more.
and i fully share others' concern (on this forum or another i forgot) about trunk space. this car was made to be taken around europe or across states on long weekends/one-week trips top down and if the metal roof is going to eat up the trunk then i think the 12 year old z3 is still a car more fit for the purpose.
