That timer wasn't created for the sole purpose of the F01 7er debut, it's a counter used by BMW for any event for which they want to create a countdown for. This time of course it's drumming up publicity and anticipation for the new Z4.
As for
blurring the boundaries, I doubt BMWs going to release a revolutionary Z4 roadster.... from what we've been hearing from Scott is that the new Z4 will blur the definition and image of a traditional roadster and create something which is more a sportscar than just a show-pony roadster.
Nothing revolutionary.. just signature BMW marketing hype to set the stage and make the message loud and clear that the new Z4 will offer something that none of it competitors posses (ie: a driving experience/performance to match or surpass the Boxster).
I gotta say though, I'm a bit disappointed that the new Z4 won't have the "3D inverted" kidney grille that was previewed on the GINA Concept.
