I can tell you, they are not. They will perfectly understand the difference between a softtop and hardtop.

And Eni, BMW might have been testing a softtop for the 3er cabrio, but I don't think they have ever shown us such a thing in spyshots...(or do you have pics?). The new Z4 is testing all options in broad daylight....

Note the E92 case: both versions were tested - softtop & hardtop: to see the difference in driving dynamics. The testing results helped the engineers to tweak the hardtop version to perform as much dynamic as possible - compared to softtop.

And same case happened in Z4 case.

Btw: US sales are not that bad - especially when compared to the direct competitors, and considering the fact Z4 E85 is in its last year of production.

YTD Jan - Apr 2008 sales:

TT (coupe incl.): 1,560
SLK (hardtop): 2,049
Z4 (coupe incl.): 2,680
Boxster + Cayman: 2,435

I'm not saying they're wrong, but we also go with what we heard. You have to remember that the new Z4 will be marketed even more for the European market, so the soft top might not be available in all the markets.

Time will tell...so far our sources have been 90% right, maybe this time will fall into the 10% range

Look ... all FEP E89 Z4 prototypes are hardtop versions ... Why's that? Because only hardtop made it into (pre)production.

Well that's quite strange !

Why Scott would have told us the two roof will be a premium first and that the 2 models will be shot ???

It's seems obvious that considering the shooting stage, Scott MUST now if there's one or two roof so that would mean he deliberately lied to us... I don't see why he would have do that... what's the point ? luring the competitors ? In the other way ok: saying it will have only one roof and finally surprising everybody with two roofs !

but saying there will be two and finally launch only one...

If there was a scott's assessment I would have to doubt about, that would be about the Diesel version... it seems quite in opposition with the "german sports car" image BMW want to give to this new car... What about you EnI, did your birdies confirmed you this Diesel version too ?

3.0 R6 bi turbo ? 2.5 R6 ?

The diesel is quite sporty if you ask me (the first ever diesel with more than 100 hp per liter). I think it would be a nice fit for the Z4....isn't Audi offering a TDI version in the TT as well???

3.0liter twin turbo for sure.

I also heard a diesel, but I cannot confirm that 100%, since it came from one source only.
