... I doubt that the Z4 with metal roof will be significantly lighter than the 335i Coupe. But that would still be much better than the 1,9t of the M3 convertible !

Yes, or the 335i cabrio. I think that the weight of the three series cabrio made the 3.5 engine a bit more "normal".
I agree that the coupe isn't that heavy and it is an excellent car. The Z4 will be even lighter i am hoping less than 1500kg... that's 100kg less than the 335i coupe, which is already an airplane.

Nissan made the new Nissan 370Z ligher than 350Z. I hope BMW manage to do the same with the new Z4.

That should be obligatory with every change of generation.

Doubt it as the new hardtop roof alone will add more weight than reasonably priced light weight materials can save.

But the Z4 hardtop will be much less complicated than E93. It will probably not even add half that weight.

Independent acceleration numbers confirm it is not just the sound that's impressive.

Lots of passion aside, like I said, it goes good too ,-)

Lets wait and see how the new Z4 goes with the same engine.

Re: Next generation BMW Z4 E89 - part II (first FEP pics incl. !!!)

the Z4 M was close to 1500kg (real weight). now the e89 is a bit bigger, has more "features", the DKG and the metal roof... AND BMW isnot famous for light weight cars (as porsche) ... M6 convertibel is 2100KG!!

my guess is 1600kg for the z4 "street weight". with the 3.0tt (326HP) it will be almost 5kg/HP - that is not "thrilling"....

with the V8 we talk at least "some less than 4kg/HP"...

Let's assume a manual gearbox and not DKG. how about this:

Z4 3.0 E89 original weight: 1379kg
difference between 3.0 and 3.0 twinturbo (3series): 35kg
difference between E85 and E89: say 80kg (can't be more, otherwise the car would be really bigger than this).

total: 1494kg.. i'm really hoping for that.
