M | Thanks!
Feel free to search for Scott's explanation in this thread why this car fits in M philosophy...
EDIT: here it is: Quote:

BMW wanting to introduce the X6 with top-level petrol and diesel powerplants to refer to the premium individual status of the X6.
A V8 diesel is confirmed for European customers. BMW will build the car in it's Spartanburg works in South Carolina alongside the X5 and Z4 models.
The BMW premium market strategy (BMW's master plan for the future in the early 00's) jigsaw is rapidly falling into place.
The BMW product line up in 2010 will be very hard to beat. | Quote:

Of course the ideas that concern the M-version are just that at the moment with the actual X6 launching in mid-late 2008 an M-variant would not see introduction till at least late 2009 or early 2010 probably using the next incarnation of BMW's V10 with a higher output than today's V10 which will also arrive in the next generation of M5 and M6. | | | | | | Contributor

I honestly don't see how the X6 fits the M criteria any more than X5. You guys are just falling for a corporate line IMO. They're based on the same chassis and will likely weigh the same, if the X6 is lighter by a few hundred pounds I'd be shocked. The only real difference is the look and seating capacity. Sure it will be sportier than the X5, but the origin is the same. This is like saying the E-Class doesn't fit the AMG "criteria" but the CLS does. Bunk, imo. BMW built a V12 X5 years ago that would have surely fit the M criteria.

Marcus, Scott has explained several times that this car will be much sportier than X5, lower ground clearance, wider, different suspension setup and more things that do fit the M criteria... If they say it fits, believe it, it fits.
I was kinda surprised too, i must admit, never thought they'll go for it, but it's the reality now. M never disappointed me, i'm sure they won't this time as well.
X5 V12 was produced due to V12's victory at LeMans and was only a show-off vehicle... | | | | | Me for President

They're the same chassis so of course they could. The marketing mask has come off here IMO. A better line would be that the X6 makes a better starting point compared to the X5, IMO. To say that they're so vastly different to the point where the X6 fits and the X5 automatically doesn't, I'm not buying...well at least until it comes out. Its a E vs CLS thing going on IMO, no long drawn out explanation is needed.

For something that never happened, but will very soon (M vehicle with 4wd) the long drawn out explanation is needed. Unfortunately, i'm not the guy that can explain this, but there are people that can.
They are making a completely new car (despite sharing the same platform with X5) and they are making an M version. Why? 'Cause there are probably or for sure, many differences between those two; one can be made by M and other can't. How come? Ask Scott or M division, not me. | | | | | Contributor

The roofline appears to be sloped off kinda radically, but we'll see.

M | Marcus, they could make an M version of X5, they said so, but they also said that the car wouldn't perform like the true M car.
They say the X6 will, hence the production... | | | | | Contributor
