Re: Big price jump on 2009 X6

As announced few days ago by BMW CEO.

BMW will reduce supply of slow-selling models in US market, while the fast-selling popular models in demand will get significant price increase in 2008, and also in 2009.

Also there will be actions to discourage leasing deals. Not only in US, but also elsewhere in the world.

BMW are finally moving from volume-oriented to profit-oriented strategy.

Mind that volume oriented strategy was also important for prestigious & marketing reasons. Being #1 in the world, or becoming #1 premium brand in US (is it could happen this year in US, but it won't since the supply will drop in the next months) is an image-boosting thing.

But from now on BMW will become less obsessed with selling numbers, but the profit from the sales.

Being #1, #2 selling brand etc won't be as important any more.

That sounds like bad news for me, but I will manage .
Have to wait until Q1-09 to get my X6.

Re: Big price jump on 2009 X6

So the 125i coupe is not even sold in the USA???

EDIT: Feel sorry for the Americans. That's some serious price hikes across the range. I guess BMW are compensating for the depreciating value of the dollar. $1 200 increase on the 335i coupe is a lot of money. Suddenly a Hyundai Genesis doesn't look like a bad deal.

128i and 135i are the options we get with the 1 series.
Same goes for the 3 series as well.

One thing i see is Americans are already bitching about the prise increases, O M F G, they get the lowest price of all and still bitch. If BMW NA played fair and put the same price as Europe i think a riot could ocurred.

In my country ( Portugal) we pay 104.000 euros for an M3, they get it for less then half. I hope BMW really increases the prices over there so they can see what reality is. No wonder 335i sells like hot dogs in US, there cheap as hell...the world ain't fair.

Well, BMW can price themselves out of the market and that will be a fair game.
You have to look at price point within the context of other indices. The price of comparative products(greatly driven by market forces) is a very important determinant here.
Comparatively speaking the price of goods and services has been significantly higher in Europe than what we pay here in the US.
