Palbay, do you think all the ones you see are just the 35? So far you spotted one 50, but do you think some of these are just a camo...?

JadeVetti, The only 50i I've seen is the red one slipping in the Gate at the Special Vehicle Ops Bld.The only way,I think,to differentiate the two is the exhaust tips and the color of the grill. The ones I've seen running around town have all been 35i's based on the above mentioned criteria. The parade of X6's being lead by the Z4 near the Plant had two black grills and two silver/chrome grills.I did not think to ck the exhaust tips when they drove pass. It's plausible that BMW built a few 50i's to let whoever these VIP's were experience the TT V-8 and TT I6.I've got my eyes peeled for that 1st Production 50i driving the local roads!!! Thanks.PalBay

It's quite feasible that what you saw was a parade of 35i and 35d models, since the 35i comes with a black grille whereas the 35d comes with a titanium grille. The diesel models are of course made in the same factory.

In the production timetable we received a few months ago, the 35i production was being started in mid-December '07 whilst 35d production was starting in early January '08. X50i production is not due to start until May '08, so I expect you will not see many X50i models driving around until nearer that time.

Any reason behind why they would delay production of this so late, instead of rolling them all out simultaneously? Wouldn't it be easier for a manufacturer to kill two (or four) birds with one huge stone?

50i has a new engine unlike the other models, so probably need more testing. Also production of a new engine takes time to ramp up.
