I'm ever more impressed with this engine with every new day.

Pity about the daft X6 xDrive50i nomenclature. What a mouthful.

"So, what do you drive?"

"I drive a BMW X6 xDrive 50i"

"Wow - 12 syllables - that's quite boastful. Is the number of syllables synonymous with status? If so, I'm off to buy a Subaru WRX STI Spec C Type RA-R! I'll see your twelve syllables and raise you five!"

"Whatever..."

"OK, so xDrive 50i, that makes it a 5 litre-what...V8?"

"Well actually it's a 4.4 litre bi-turbo V8. BMW wanted to call it an xDrive-four-point-four-eye but that would've made it 13 syllables which was considered unlucky."

"Ohhh... so this is the same engine as in a 650i?"

"No, that's a naturally aspirated 4.8 litre V8..."

"Erm..."

The int is easily thre best among BMW's lineup but the ext leaves me cold and somehow reminds me of that hideous pontiac SUV Azetic maybe?

Give me X5 with that new engine anyday IMO.

Agree with you totally Martin. I'm still amazed that the guys at BMW actually gave the go-ahead for something so stupid.

Would it be so much better if the the car was badged X6 4.4si xDrive ???

Yeah, I though the spew of TLAs coming from BMW was dump but the new nomenclature is even dumber. What is next? M3 rDrive42i? I think the not so fine line of difference between a 'name' and a 'description' is lost on these fellows. A name doesn't have to cram in every attribute of an object.
