With 4 seats only BMW prevents massive cross-shopping between X5 & X6. Strict coupe nature differentiates X6 from X5. Guys ... You are forgetting here we are talking about coupe with SAV genes here. So, it's an all-purpose coupe, not a compromised SAV. ![]() Yet ... perhaps the 3rd backseat will be offered later. BMW are known to introduce new features and/or options gradually. ![]()

If BMW would have wanted to distinguish the seating properly they should have made the X6 a proper 2+2 like the Volvo C30. You know, go all the way, because there is nothing cool or special about the back row as it looks now. It's neither cool nor function. ![]()

It's designed to carry 4 people with good comfort despite the sleek roofline which takes away a lot of head space compared to the X5. Still, adding a 3rd place would probably spoil the travelling comfort for everybody on the rear seat. I agree. It should have had two separate seats in the back in the same style as the C30. |

The M designation generally denotes engines that were built 2001 and earlier. The U actually denotes the lower class, whilst the O denotes the upper class non-m engines.

![]() | Re: Official: BMW X6 EnI, you think that BMW would offer this far down the timeline, or close to launch? I have allready sold my primary daily drive, holding an option to book a march delivery X6 35d, but as things look now I think I will be more popular with my two sons and wife if I go for the spacious solution (x5) as 7seater, rather than the x6 that only can transport the family without any sort of guests. I can opt for the x6 if its comming as 5 seater, because that is what we currently have (and it works) but seeing alot of probs with going for a pure 2+2 Also semi bearish to buy unseen\touched\tried and from first batch. I understand the X6 doesn't offer M-Sport Package from start (jan08 prod) (I have my preorder spec'd with the Sport Package (non M)) another pointer for why I should opt for the X5 I like my car painted as whole not with contrasting plastic... Now if only someone with inside info perhaps could reveal that at a certain date, I will be able to order X5 with Night Vision as option (driving alot in the Norwegian mountains in the winter, and wud like it for the safety of avoiding moose and people walking besides the road at night) And that I cud get the full dynamic XDrive as option on the X5 (with torque gismo's at each wheel= Dynamic Performance Control) then the walking away from the preorder X6 wouldn't be so difficult... N64 is coded N64 B44 ?0 I'll try to find out what the "?" is. I'm sure it's not "K" or "T" ... IMO it's either "U" or "M".PS: I missed the K. The correct explanation is: K = lowest power output, U = low power output, M = moderate power output, O = high power output, T = highest power output.

Not to whine but I just think that there should be an an option for those who want a traditional second row.

![]() ![]() | Re: Official: BMW X6 Agreed they've missed a trick here IMO. The third seat should be an option because I can see this car appealing to current X5 owners who want something more exclusive. In the UK especially, it seems as though a lot of X5 owners have opted for the Range Rover Sport, which I feel is the X6's main competition. Don't give me the marketing garbage, the idea of Coupe SAV is flawed, this is a posers SUV, for the X5 owner who wants something that's even better on the road and will get the inevitable glances on the school run. |

![]() I believe the X6 rear seat space is compromised because of the roofline. This would be due to the coupe philosophy meaning that with a coupe you put driving dynamics before interior space. To be worth the M-model (in BMW's eyes) X6 has to be much lower and have a lower point of gravity, hence a sleeker roofline. With the third passenger on the rear seat the outernmost passengers will have much less horizontal space and the middle passenger will be forced to more upright seating position where he/she is more likely to hit the roof with the top of his head. S-Class and LS as larger cars and without the sloping roofline don't have this problem. The X5 is there if you want more rear seat head space. The XF I can't comment on because I haven't sat in it but if it's anything similar to CLS, the rear seat will be uncomfortable for more than two passengers. The back seat of the RS4 is cramped for three full-grown adults just like in the most important competitors, 3er and C-Class.
