Under the new engine coding system N54 engine is badged (it was rebadged):

N54 B30 U0

(and I expect V8 bi-turbo is coded N64 B44 U0, or N64 B44 M0).

U0

The letter tells us the power output. K = lowest power output, U = low power output, M = moderate power output, O = high power output, T = highest power output.
The number tells us the version. 0 = initial version 1 = first upgrade, 2 = second upgrade, 3 = ...).

B30

The letter tells us the type of energy source engine is using. B = gasoline, D = diesel, E = electricity, G = natural gas, H = hydrogen.

The 2-digit number tells us the displacement of the engine. 30 = 3.0L, 25 = 2.5L , 20 = 2.0L, 44 = 4.4L, 48 = 4.8L, etc.

N54

The letter tells us the generation of the engine. Eg. N = new generation, M = previous generation, S = sports generation.

The first number is a code telling us the number of cylinders. 4=4cyl, 5=6cyl, 6=8cyl, 7=12cyl, 8=10cyl.

The second number tells use the tech engine is using. 0 = prototype, 1 = SULEV/PZEV configuration , 2 = double VANOS + Valvetronic, 3 = Direct Injection Naturally Aspirated, 4 = Direct Injection Turbocharged, 5 = Double VANOS w/o Valvetronic, 7 = diesel engine turbocharged.

So, N54 B30 U0 tells us the current version (135i, 335i, 535i, 635i, X6 35i etc) is the lowest power output version!!!

Re: Official: BMW X6

The Xdrive badge marks that BMW want to market their 4 wheel drive system as something special like Quattro.

Re: Official: BMW X6

Back seats, an issue for anyone other than me?

On the 1 series you can select 2+2 configuration by adding similar styled backseat cup holder\mid portion. I am seriously hoping that the pictures we see are representing just one of two backseat configurations, the other alternative seating potentially 3.

If this car is only going to be possible to drive as a 2+2, I will have no option as to pull my existing X6 35d order and place an order on a X5 instead, what a shame after waiting so long.

For those of you that know "whats comming soon" when will we see Xdrive on the X5 as an alternative to order the X6? will the X5 be possible to order with "full leather dash" as seen on pictures of the Xdrive50?

Another issue I am struggeling with is not being able to order nightvision on either the x6 or x5, its optional on the 7,6 and 5 series.. shud be optional on the X series as well. (I am talking European Spec here dunno what you guys stateside got as options on em)

Do you know why it was rebadged? For the 335 it still says: N54 B30 O0...
Is it still the same engine?

Best regards, south

Best regards, south

All E82 / E88 technical data sheets I got show the new code already: N54 B30 U0. It's the same engine, only rebadged.

Why rebadging? Because this 306PS version is set as the version with the lowest input. Mind that the more powerful editions are coming (eg 135tii etc). And rebadging the 306PS version to the "lowest power output" version tells us BMW are planing some serious power upgrades in the future ("M", "O", and "T" versions are still possible!).

I agree. The difference in price between X5 and X6 will be similar to difference in price between 5-series and 6-series.

Re: Official: BMW X6

I was thinking about the xDrive badge. The new engine is 4.4-liter but it's replacing the 4.8-liter one and will most likely have the x50i-designation (550i, 650i, 750i). If the X6 models were named using the traditional method the 4.4 V8 TT would have been X6 4.4Si (with the capital "S"). For customers it might have been difficult to comprehend that 4.4Si uses the same engine as the (future) 550i/650i/750i. That could be one of the reasons why they chose this a bit awkward xDrive50i designation. This also partly explains why BMW has been registering those [enter any letter here]Drive names.

I'm expecting the X5 and X3 soon to follow with the new naming policy. Maybe they have a similar thing for the Z4 as well, "Z4 sDrive30i" or something like that...

I must say that personally I would have prefered the 4.4Si designation.

Thanks for mentioning the full leather dash, I hadn't noticed it. It's great for those who want to cover every bit possible in their car with beige leather.
From the information which has surfaced so far the rear row will strictly be a 2 seater with no other option, quite disappointing.
