Five Most Significant Debuts of the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show: BMW Concept X6: BMW Concept X6 BMW Concept X6 BMW added some genuine athleticism to the SUV game with the original X5. Now, just as the other players are starting to get good, BMW changes the game again with the fastback concept X6, its so-called sport-activity coupe. With its unique profile, sloping rear end, and huge, wide-set wheels, the concept X6 is the ute that Porsche should have built but didn’t. It is one bad lux-u-vee with a blatant disregard for utility, that makes the “sport-activity” (versus “sport-utility”) part of the moniker seem a bit less silly. As for the “coupe” part, well, until they take two doors off the sides, that’ll always be silly. BMW assures us that the body will carry through to production with no changes, but the company remains mum on powertrain details other than to confirm that the X6 will be the basis for its first-ever hybrid.
