I've always been a big fan of armoured cars, but never a fan of Beckham. He's highly overrated and one dimensional. I think dominix has a good point about any stories concerning Becks instantly becomes big news. The world is obsessed with celebrity and ignores real societal problems, but if I was a newspaper publisher, I would publish stories on his car getting stolen instead of the serious world issues.
The BMW X5 is armoured to protect only against handguns, level B4. If someone takes an assault rifle and sprays it, it's goodnight for the passengers. The X5 is armoured at a separate production line at the BMW factory. As for an armoured M5, that is unlikely, but not likely because it'll ruin the handling. There is an armoured 5-series, but it is only handgun level protection like. The 7-Series has full protection against explosives and assault rifles. The reason the 5-series cars are not armoured to the maximum level is because it's a much smaller car and has only a V8. Generally, armoured cars should be large, long wheelbase cars with a V12. If there is ever a M5 from the factory, it could only get handgun-level protection. Here's the BMW website for security vehicles:

The chairman of Daimler Benz had his S600 stolen months ago. He parked it on the street like Becks did. That car however was armoured to the assault rifle level.
