In fact there are two new things: First all-wheel-drive M-car and first turbo-charged M-car.

Agreed. Turbo charging could have passed as a new chapter. AWD, SUV body-style and turbo charge, now that makes a new book. But why engage in hairsplitting.

Ah, but I think state side you could get the E36 M3 with automatic transmission.

Yeah, but that basicly was the only auto box in an M car in like.....ever....
So that really is an exeption that proves the rule

Yep, X5M & X6M will defy the M tradition heavily. Technology wise.

A new chapter indeed. Yet still the same old book: M.

Well that was no real M3 anyway, but a slightly glorified 328i...

In Europe the e36 had an optional SMG-I box, without converter. Rubbish box BTW...

So, this will be the first real M with a slushbox. And with AWD. And with a turbo. And with over 2.5tons. And with over 1.75m height.

So basicly... This will be the first anti-M M product. And of course, a split in the face of "ED"...

If that is the future of M, well... let's hope BMW will create Tii products to replace Motorsport...

Soon an RS Audi will appear incredibly noble, light and refined next to an muscle-M...
