He went to his boss and said "Hey, Boss, I've got an idea, why not creating a new suv based on the X5, but with a design on it? No, no, it' not that the new X5 looks exactly the same as the old one.... No, I... Yes, OK, it does, but... Yes, but I could design a new one, we would say it is a SUC, or SAV, or SUD I don't know, and this time I really will design it, OK?"
So, here you are, the X6.
THAT is a beautiful suv.
BMW needed it because the X5, well, is noting really new I would say...
Just my opinion of course. | Still X5 is top seller among german SUVs. Looks like customers like the new X5..
While you at it, you can visit the Audi A4 thread and ML thread to bash them too. You are good at it. | | | | | Enthusiast

I see new X5 to be succesfull evolution of old version..Old one was a real brektrough for BMW in SUV segment and it did remarkably good job at it.So,it is rather obvious choice for BMW not to drasticly change original X5īs shape..and I honestly like it that way. | | | | | GCZ's High Court

Every real car enthusiast would notice from space shuttle the difference between the new one and the old one. Sure it didn't change like E38 vs. E65, but difference is damn obvious! The car was developed for many years and you make it sound like they only stretched and widened it. That's not the case and that's a fact! You may not like it, but above post/arguments suck, sorry. | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to Tycoon For This Useful Post: | | | Contributor

Bangle hasn't design NONE of BMW vehicles.
He is a design chief - a manager, leader, advocate for designs, mentor.
BoD is responsible to rule out the other design proposals, and picks the final one. Design chiefs are there to micro-mange & organize the design processes. Yes, they also give advices to designers. But mainly they are there as a link between design dept and other depts. Eg. Bangle (he is the link between design dept. and BoD) is the one who presents designs to BoD - from the point when initial proposals are available, till the point when only two proposals left to choose between. His job at this point is to advocate for each design proposal, and has a power to influence the BoD decision.
But in the end only three parties are responsible for the design: exterior designer, interior designer, and the management board. All the other parties all "just" the "supporting stuff" in the process.
Design chiefs (when addressing the public outside the company) are kind a PR persons responsible for design matters. | | | | | Fanatic

Yes, yes, ENI, I perfectly know that, but I was joking... You can't laugh at a group of persons, needs to personnificate them.
Beemers fans are so serious when we speak of their beloved cars...
I of course did not meant it serious.
I've never liked the X5, and I do think it has not changed enough.
But I put a lot of irony and exaggeration in my posts!!
Never take it too seriously... Let's say it is French humor... | | | | | Me for President
