Mind that in the case all info I got were true that would mean they come from members of Management Board themselves - since I guess they are the ones in BMW AG who are informed about all the product plans & final designs.

Do you think BMW is going to outsource the X1 to MAGNA STEYR like they do now with X3?
Those were the rumors. X3 will move to Spartanburg South Carolina, and X1 would take over in Austria..

Mind that MINI Oxford plant reached its full capacity - they could increase the production to max 260,000 annually but that's it. And this is only enough for a hatch, clubman & cabrio. No way SAV will be produced there since BMW have no plans to expand the Oxford plant.

So the MINI SAV is the best candidate to be outsourced to Magna Styer. And it was also said by BMW officials this MINI vehicle production would be outsourced.

The X1 is likely to be produced in Leipzig though.

X1 is planned for Euro markets mainly. Will it be offered in US? Though question.
But we can be more sure MINI SAV will be offered in US.
Mini compact SAV fits MINI brand (toyish funky cars) better than BMW brand.

Even better: that way Magna can mess up the MINI SUV without doing damage to the BMW brand.

BMW doing the X1 in-house like all other cars sounds much, much, much better.

can't comment on that, but i don't think that magna will soon see an X vehicle
there were rumors on austrian tv that magna is going to get the MINI, but things can go round in this buisness
X1 in-house ? don't prais the day befor the evening ...

bmw confirmed today that the MINI SUV is going to be built in graz
X1 is going to be an inHouse production at leipzig ... funny, didn't expect that - so there is an ODM in germany, that really f**ed it up
but a better choise for the X1

Btw, I have some info Magna officials are eying very closely a site for a new factory near Maribor, Slovenia (as well some sites in Hungary and Slovak Republic). I was also told the new factory would produce new model for BMW Group ... and now we know that's MINI SAV.

Do you have some additional info perhaps? Is Magna searching for a new production site outside Austria due lower production costs?
