Human will become famous soon enough
Opinions differ and too be honest - as a BMW fanatic...I am not a fan of the Tiguan nor the Audi Q5, proportionally they just don't make sense to me in their design (outside). The Freelander 2 as well as the Ford Kuga looks really good in terms of design - even pretty!?!?

That said...the X1 is not ugly, but honestly....Just as out of proportion as the Q5, Tiguan and GLK....NOT what I would call pretty.

Beautiful is the X5 & X6 and hopefully the next X3 (the latter in current design is not ugly at all).

Sorry. but no cigar for a new BMW with a HUGE 7er nose job, thin side fenders and that narrow rear....Well then maybe the car was not made to appeal to me, afterall I am the X guy....X6 that is!!!

EnI, I think the use of dimension as a measure by which to define the X1 main competitors doesn't completely tell the story. The question posed by HoH was that the X1 will be an EX competitor. It won't - as the EX sits in a larger size category altogether with a bigger 3.5 litre V6.

Although EX is much longer (+ 173mm) but its wheelbase is just 20mm (less than an inch) longer than the one of X1.
We know that the X1 will be lower than its direct rivals - but this doesn't alter the X1's closest rivals in terms of market positioning and most importantly concept which is what I was alluding to.

The X1's wheelbase tells us very little in truth due to BMW's traditionally longer wheelbases resulting from their preferred style of packaging engine + AWD componentry.

VW Tiguan is just 30mm shorter than X1, while its wheelbase is considerably shorter: -160mm.
So the X1 sits in between the SWB and LWB Qashqais, thus, despite it being lower, it very much is of the same concept. Not quite hatch, not quite SUV.

The Tiguan's wheelbase doesn't lend itself well for comparison because of its underpinnings' Golf origins i.e. transverse drivetrain-based AWD. The X1 is just 3 cm longer than a Tiguan then. And I bet they'll have incredibly similar interior dimensions - not influenced by wheelbase. Of course, I stand to be corrected when I see the finished result but I'd be surprised if the X1's interior was appreciably more spacious than a Tiguan's.

The X1 has a decidedly more outdoorsy image than the Infiniti EX - BMW themselves are punting that. So they're not direct rivals imo.

I just pointed out similarities & differences based on the dimension - of course on marketing base it's clear how the X1 will be positioned, and who are its direct rivals.

Clear to you maybe, but evidently, not everyone...

Looks better than the X3 but thats hardly a merit..
Other than that..i still feel bmw could make something more exciiting than these semi ugly SUVs and vans..

The X1 is going to be a great BMW .Modern , compact , luxurious , sporty , great to drive and a feeling of solidity in quality and touch.

So far it looks like any other car with just front lights embedded from a BMW.
Even the nostrils aren't getting any buzz.

Hopefully that taping is covering some crucial details that are going to change the whole car.

It has lots of creases and curves that I don't like, especially around the rear.

King-B is on a distinguished road
Why do we need an X1, X3, X5, and X6????

This should be labeled as the new X3 IMO. There is not enough room in the segment. As far as the design goes, there are just too many creases and curves. Unlike the X5 which is too boxy and boring imo. Its not a bad looking car, but its just not needed imo. They gotta kill off something. 4 SUV's simply arent needed. BMW is headed to down the same path Mercedes faced a few years back. Not to mention the 5er GT on the way...Its too much.
