The proportions are dead on , small , dynamic and visually chunky styling , the wheel designs for this car are very sporty indeed and fit the arches better than the 17" you see here. X1 will be promoted as the urban BMW SAV, We like to think of it in the same vein as the Nissan Quashqai , an alternative to the mainstream. Driving dynamics are very sport orientated aswell.

We are hoping this car really starts the phase as generated by the X3 and establishes a new segment. Although the hate consumed will comment but this will be another very exciting BMW.
Alterated shape is more like E92 rear lights shape?.

^^ Not at all. Not like what Eni says either. X1 will be like Nissan Quasquai; a small SUV. No raised wagon.

Re: BMW X1: CGIs, spy pics & info

Lets get one thing clear it is not exactly a high-riding 1er hatchback.

It is a more compact SAV which does use X series cues as well as nods to the 1er (more the next generation) The design is more organic and less squared .

Just as the X3 actually had clues to the E90 from the strong character line across the body to the shape of the front headlights and the rear lighting units that wrap around the rear wing - all showcasing future form with the E90.

X1 will actually be helpful in sustainability with the current E83 X3 which is looking dated ahead of the Q5 or GLK.
As probable X3 owners might downsize to the X1 Xdrive35i or X1 Xdrive20d instead of alternatives from rival manufacturers. In which case could provide sustainance until the new sport orientated X3 in early 2010.

Why the change in direction with the X3? Well knowing too well that Audi and Mercedes-Benz are muscling in on the X3's segment , It is only too right to take a new direction with the second generation X3 in which that sloping roof and shallow rear screen shows it's intentions.
Originally planned for the X6 , The X3 now takes that design , Z4 is the first second generation model that will be more driver orientated and focused than the outgoing car, X3 will also follow this lead.

BMW see the X1 as the right car at the right time and are aiming for (Only premium manufacturer) best in segment as amplified by The X3 (Until now), X5 and of course in a class of it's own the X6 (Who will be the first?) be launched with Efficient Dynamics and best in class petrol and diesel power and C02 output. Combined with typical BMW driving and handling qualifications.
The Urban BMW SAV is shaping up to be another exciting addition to BMW's product line.
BMW Active hybrid is on the cards aswell as you will see .

My point was the X1 won't be any bigger than eg. Allroad or CrossCountry.

Actually, it's more like a bit shrunken Mazda CX-7.
Something very similar to Mazda CX-5.
