The Porsche 917 was, without doubt, the most significant competition car ever produced by Zuffenhausen, transforming the company from a class winner into the dominant player on the sports car stage. While today, the 917 may appear crude, for its time it achieved a level of performance that few if any of its rivals could match. Moreover, its successes spanned not just the traditional long distance international arena, but the very different, high horsepower universe of North American Can-Am sprint racing as well.

Yes, it went 396 km/h on Le Mans...

I prefer the coupe especially in Team Wyer colors...

Of course you can't go wrong with the 1100 hp 917K/30...

Those are really hot... very nice cars! Fast as hell too... Damn!

Although it lacked the top end speed of the long-tail, the 917 kurz or short tail was much more driveable...

This car is THE car bought bt Steve McQueen's production company to make the movie LeMans. It is currently owned by Jerry Seinfeld and I understand it has no competetion history...

This is one of the Porsche of Austria cars entered by Louise Piech at LeMans...

Of course it was the red #23 917 Porsche of Austria entry that gave Porsche their first overall win at LeMans in 1970...
