Driving the twin-turbocharged 500-hp, old-money Bentley

Bentley's contemporary range can be split into two camps: "old money" and "new money." The Continental GT, Flying Spur and even the new GTC are the choice of the professionally successful. Each was developed before Volkswagen's takeover of Bentley in 1998, and is based on the platform of the Volkswagen Phaeton. They are ultramodern sophisticates laced with old-world charm. In their native Britain, they are the preferred choice of the professional soccer player.

The 2007 Bentley Arnage T, though, is different...

Re: Edmunds: First Drive: 2007 Bentley Arnage T

Wow, I never knew the Continental range was developed before VW's takeover. So VW 'stole' the platform to build the Phaeton, so to speak?

Thanks ree!

Maybe I misunderstood - the article could have meant that Bentley planned to build the continental range but didn't have the resources to, and then went ahead with it because VW provided the platform.

Bentley Java was Bentleys attempt of a MSB back in early 1990s but as James said money was not flourishing back then & it wasn't built (unless you count the specials built for the Sultan of Brunei ).

The Continental family was developed by VW 100%
