Re: Sport Auto: Wet Handling Course - 10-15-2006, 04:07 PM

I've obtained new information on this test which I did not know before!

All of the wet water course tests are done with the traction control systems on - except of course with the vehicles which do not have the system (IE. Ford GT) This helps clarify much.

For example, magazines have stated numerous times before that the TC system on the 997 GT3 is the same one found on the Carrera GT - and that particular system is known to allow a lot 'play' before it's activates. This obviously helped the GT3 acheive it's superb lap times.

On the F430 matter,

I'm not sure If anybody recently watched Best Motoring's test of the F430, but in case you haven't, they ran the F430 on a wet circle track attempting to drift the vehicle - they tried this operation with all five settings and they found the rain and snow mode to be extremely intrusive. I would assume the F430 was run in "rain" mode and that meant the acceleration was extremely limited.

I've seen that episode. The F430 wasn't good at all in the wet compared to the competition.

I really think it`s interesting how the SL65 beat the CLK-DTM and SLK55 considering it`s heft. Thats amazing!

tires are really important on this test.....Thats why im just a bit on the skeptical side. However its probably true that Audi and porsche have the best times due to engine/drivetrain set up..etc. Id be curious how the turbo would do on this because its all wheel drive as well.

Great thread. Wow the GT3 is superb, to be honest I really expected the 911 models to be at the bottom of this list. This just shows that the 911 is still the best sports car in the world.

To me this test does not mean anything. Many cars have very different traction control systems from others which means some are way more intrusive. A cars full potencial should only be tested with the traction off.
