Post Car insurance. - 01-14-2007, 04:01 PM

The time has finally come for me to buy my first car. I'm thinking about buying a very simple A-to-B car 1 or 1 Gs. Since I've just moved to the US I know nothing about car insurances over here and hope that some of you Us guys wouldn't mind filling me in about tips and tricks, like what insurance company I should buy an insurance from.

The only good news is that today with Internet you will be able to get rate comparisons real easily. In California I had Allstate and in North Carolina I have had State Farm. I think companies like Progressive give you rate quote comparisons as well regardless of who is the least expensive. I just remember seeing commercials about that.

The bad news is that California is one of the most expensive states to get car insurance, if not the most expensive. When I moved from California to North Carolina, my monthly payment became one third of what it had been in California. And since you have just arrived and have no driving experience in the US, I am afraid you will not be offered any great deals.

Actually, that might be a good reason to start out with the least expensive possible car.

Anyhow, welcome to America! And as you know, unlike in Scandinavia, here you can't live without a car. But then again, there are a lot of things that are great here. I'm sure overall you'll like it here

Just like to add that lots of things impact how much you pay, such as: Age, gender, education, type of car, prior accidents, among other things.

Honestly, it's going to depend on where in california you're living (zip code), your age, your occupation (sometimes) and of course your car. Only go online to get an idea of what kind of rates you're going to get but I'd rather say call around to different agents and get something set up by them. Unlike the computer, they better understand that you're a college student or whatever. Good luck! and if you're near Sacramento, let's meet up!
