To be pushed through space so fast has probably the same effect as drugs, the rush is so addictive that it is unreal. It feels very different from the other modern fast cars. Getting a big kick in the pants and being pushed through space very fast is the only way I can describe it.

BTW, checked the suspension and it's got the bilsteins etc. that the stock 930s did not have and therefore the car's suspension is also according to RUF spec, at least according to the Marc Bongers' "Porsche and RUF-Sportscars" - book.

Finally discovered this thread!
Wow that's a beaut, there's just something about elaborate exhaust work that makes an engine look appealing.
Did you ever get a dyno before you started the modifications, that would be pretty cool just to see what you would come up with afterwards.
Looking forward to the finished product.

Thanks bum-man Regarding the pre-mod dyno, I was considering it but in the end did not do it. The published hp number for this car was 374hp at 0.8 bar. The car had a 1 bar spring which would have upped that number by a bit. I was told by someone at RUF that they have always been conservative with their numbers. I'm fairly confident that the car before the modifications was around 400hp. In fact the person at RUF mentioned a number slightly above that. But in my mind it was a 400 hp car with the 1 bar spring. It will probably be at least a month before I'll go to the dyno since I need to break that turbo in for about 500 miles or so.

That 400hp is really good considering the fact that your car is lighter than the last couple generations of 911 turbos. I know you've told me before on the phone but can you remind me how much it weighs. Wasn't it something like 2700-2800 pounds?

Thanks bmwrules! Yes, the weight is 1256kg or ~2763lb. So it had to carry about 6.9 lb or 3.14 kg for 1hp.

BTW, unfortunately the sound will change since I had to get the new exhaust (should be arriving this morning since I had to overnight it). This unexpected necessity was a bit like swallowing a bone, but Fabspeed sounds Ok too, just different. Probably a bit more racey. I guess I'll get used to it.

That looks great- should go even better! My friend who owns a domestic repair shop is now a B&B dealer, so if you ever need B&B let me know, I can get you a discount. He is also a tire rack wholesaler and is signing up for other lines as well. He just put the engine back in his 1980 911SC and we will be starting it up this weekend. I haven't had any interest in all my turbo performance parts, so I think I'll hang onto them and maybe someday build a monster track car out of the parts. I've taken the turbo 3.6 off the market because I don't see many nice low mileage ones out there lately.
BTW the big reds pictured in your post are not really big reds- they are big and red, but they are early 930 brakes painted red. They are like the brakes on my 78 930 and like I used to have on my 914-6 (weren't legal for the class I race in) Big reds first appeared in 1994 (on the turbo 3.6) and don't have the cooling fins on the calipers. What you have stop the car well enough and are lighter (unsprung wieght) than big reds, so stick with them. More important are the tires and pads- try the Pagid yellows for unbelievable stopping power, but realize you'll need new rotors more often.

Thanks drronh! I will certainly PM you if I have a need for some more B&B products. I just rechecked your list of items in your post of 05-06-2006 and noticed the B&B headers Sorry, I had forgotten that you also had the B&B headers. But, I think your idea of building a monster track car with the parts sounds good and then you will positively need those headers. While I totally understand your desire to keep your 930 stock, just for thinking what-if scenarios, my dynoing this car in a month or so should give results that would be close to what you would be getting with all those parts in your car. The monster spring that RUF sent me did not fit in the Tial, so I put a 0.2 bar and a 0.9 bar in there instead, which is the same as your 1.1 bar spring. Besides, I don't think I'd ever want to try above 1.1 in any case. No need to detonate this engine.
Your 964 cams should not be all that different from the Group B cams that RUF used. Yes, they are different, but both lean toward the top end. And of course the Mahle P&Cs are the same.

Which K-27 do you have?

The one that came off mine was a K-27 7006 (or at least based on the 7006). Which makes sense because the 7006 is known to be a great top-end turbo, and those days the idea was to have a great autobahn rocket.

Keeping the 3.6 964 T I think is a very good thing in my mind due to the rarity of the car.

Thanks for clearing up the Big Reds - issue. Good to know how to distinguish them: The cooling fins. I had asked a person at iA whether they were big reds or not (I had sent him a picture), and he said that they were. However, he was obviously guessing and did not really know. Should have asked Stephen Kaspar (the owner of iA, and, as you know, one of the few US Porsche Turbo Gods). I just did not feel like bothering him with a little question like that knowing how busy he is.

My k-27 is a 7006 also. If I use these parts it won't be in the 930. I would build a 934 and a half clone or a 993 GT2 Evo clone from scratch. But that is a long ways down the road. I think I'm going to start tracking the GT3 for DE's because it is cheaper to run than the 914-6. If that's the case I need to invest in a new seat, harness bar, belts, wheels, tires, etc, and I won't be using it as a trade in on the 997 GT3 RS, so either way money is tight

934 sounds like a very doable project. The 993 GT2 Evo of course would be the ultimate, but, I would imagine a lot tougher project to accomplish. Either way, great long-term plans

Would tracking the 997GT3 RS be out of the question? Of course I realize it's brand-new and really expensive for starting the punishment yet. But then again....

BTW. My mechanic will be on vacation for Mon and Tue so I will have to wait for my car till the end of next week
