BTW the big reds pictured in your post are not really big reds- they are big and red, but they are early 930 brakes painted red. They are like the brakes on my 78 930 and like I used to have on my 914-6 (weren't legal for the class I race in) Big reds first appeared in 1994 (on the turbo 3.6) and don't have the cooling fins on the calipers. What you have stop the car well enough and are lighter (unsprung wieght) than big reds, so stick with them. More important are the tires and pads- try the Pagid yellows for unbelievable stopping power, but realize you'll need new rotors more often. |
Thanks drronh! I will certainly PM you if I have a need for some more B&B products. I just rechecked your list of items in your post of 05-06-2006 and noticed the B&B headers

Sorry, I had forgotten that you also had the B&B headers. But, I think your idea of building a monster track car with the parts sounds good and then you will positively need those headers. While I totally understand your desire to keep your 930 stock, just for thinking what-if scenarios, my dynoing this car in a month or so should give results that would be close to what you would be getting with all those parts in your car. The monster spring that RUF sent me did not fit in the Tial, so I put a 0.2 bar and a 0.9 bar in there instead, which is the same as your 1.1 bar spring. Besides, I don't think I'd ever want to try above 1.1 in any case. No need to detonate this engine.
Your 964 cams should not be all that different from the Group B cams that RUF used. Yes, they are different, but both lean toward the top end. And of course the Mahle P&Cs are the same.
Which K-27 do you have?
The one that came off mine was a K-27 7006 (or at least based on the 7006). Which makes sense because the 7006 is known to be a great top-end turbo, and those days the idea was to have a great autobahn rocket.
Keeping the 3.6 964 T I think is a very good thing in my mind due to the rarity of the car.
Thanks for clearing up the Big Reds - issue. Good to know how to distinguish them: The cooling fins. I had asked a person at iA whether they were big reds or not (I had sent him a picture), and he said that they were. However, he was obviously guessing and did not really know. Should have asked Stephen Kaspar (the owner of iA, and, as you know, one of the few US Porsche Turbo Gods). I just did not feel like bothering him with a little question like that knowing how busy he is.
