Brake help with '93 190E sportline.

Ok, so as you may well have guessed, I need a bit of help with the brakes on my 190. So, I'm replacing the rotors cause they're getting quite thin after the beatings my brother subjected them to. So, I've gotten the wheels off, which was pretty simple, but getting the center nut that holds the rotor onto the front axle... is proving to be nigh impossible.

Has anyone had any experience with this, cause if they have, I would be very grateful as I don't want to strip any bolt and further the damage to my wonderful car. Any tips on what to do, or how to take care of these little things?

The only thing holding the rotor onto the hub after the caliper is off is a small scew 5mm hex. Once that is off the rotor should fall off. If not hit the rotor with a hammer.
You do not need to remove the axle nut!!! If that nut is loosened it could cause problems with the wheel bearing.

Well, I know the hex nut needs to come off, and that's what's giving me so much trouble, I can pretty much put my whole weight on the wrench and it won't budge. I've put some WD-40 on it and everything and it just refuses to move.

Oh, by the way, what am I gonna need to set my torque stick to when I reattach the wheel, my bro didn't keep any of the manuals or anything and I don't wanna screw this up.

Re: Brake help with '93 190E sportline.

forget torque stick, Torque wrench!... 80ft lbs or 110nm.

If you haven't gotten the hex off yet try to tighten it and then loosen, might brake free that way. If that doesn't work and it wont come out, get a BFH and hit the rotor hard enough to brake it off

Never had one of those nuts not brake free right away, if anything they would just strip out or the hex bit would brake. Then you have to drill it out and retap it.

Re: Brake help with '93 190E sportline.

Yeah, I got everything taken care of. Pads, and all, I'm just putting the wheel back on, man did that take forever. Turns out my bro hasn't replaced anything in this car since... well I really don't know when but my brake pads were basically two little leaves and apparently he left the original rotors on there and just ground them down so they've become quite thin, I worry about this car.

Anyways, thanks for the help, I'll get this taken care of... it took 9 hours to get one side done... now for the other.

Wow only nine hours for one side! When I did mine it took an hour to do both sides but then I did that for a living (not a good living, but a living) for over 4 years.

You might want to bleed the brakes
