Help! Something came off my Buick, and we have no idea what! - 10-31-2007, 03:50 PM

Well, I know solution number one will be to take it to a mechanic, but I'm going to wait until I get home from college for Thanksgiving break to do that because we have a guy back home we trust with this sorta stuff. The story goes like this: I was driving back up to school (here in Western NY) from CT, when somewhere just before Elmira, my HVAC stops blowing AC air. And then somewhere past Elmira, my HVAC stops blowing air at all. Now, this is a 1990 Buick Century Limited with the 3300 Series V6. And so I was checking out my engine bay because there was a wicked rattle, and I found this sitting on my subframe:

Now, I think it's a pulley cap for what I've decided is my HVAC pulley:

So, any suggestions or solutions other than, "Take it to a mechanic" would be helpful. Thanks!

Ben

Time to buy an Audi?

I think you nailed what it was. I would sugest just going to a junk yard and find a replacement but I'm sure the replacement will end up the exact same. Seems like that clutch "thingy" for the AC isn't fully dissengaging for it to look all melted like that.
