Nobody, exept the future EU fuel emission laws. They need a gearbox that uses less fuel.....and compared to ZF's last gearbox for BMW (the 6-speed first found in the E65), this new 8-speed is expected to use around 8% less gasoline again, with better sprint times and stuff
