Cool Q TIRES: New technology Retractable-stud Tires - 03-14-2007, 03:16 AM

Q Tires: Equipped with retractable studs

First, we had the run-flat tires, now we've got the retractable-stud tires. It might sound like something off a sci-fi movie but actually, Q’s patented technology is quite simple; the retractable-stud tires incorporate an air-bladder that forces the studs in or out depending of course on the weather conditions. The studs can be activated and retracted about 50 times before the bladder needs to be refilled with air. According to reports, Idaho, Washington, Oregon and Montana are expected to pass legislations that’ll allow Q tires to be used all year round

Q TIRES RELEASE

“Q” is a new tire company that is creating the world's safest tires. Why? Because millions of lives are at stake. Including yours and your family's. Every winter, icy conditions cause thousands of fatalities. But now Q has developed Celsius, the first and only all-weather tire with retractable studs.

Q Tires has developed this patented all-weather tire technology for autos and trucks. Celsius technology enables studs to be extended from the surface of the tire in snow and ice, yet lie below the tread when not required. Celsius tires contain anti-corrosive safety studs that deploy when you need them, providing optimal control on icy roads, then retract when driving conditions are safer.

Celsius tires with retractable studs alleviate extensive road damage caused by permanent studs, and improve safety in all weather conditions. Celsius is the long awaited solution to challenging weather conditions.

Q & A

How does Q Celsius work?
The technology enables air pressure from the main chamber of the tire to expand a secondary chamber, which lifts the studs above the surface of the tread. When road conditions no longer require studs, the air pressure is released to atmosphere and the studs retract below the tread face.

How many times can the system be activated before I need to re-fill my tires?
At least fifty times, in normal circumstances.

What if a nail punctures the secondary chamber that holds the studs?
Simply repair the tire at any tire shop or garage.

How does Q Celsius save our roadways?
Every year, hundreds of millions of dollars of damage are done by conventional studded tires as they grind down our highways. Q Celsius tires have studs that need never come in contact with pavement, eliminating that damage.

How does Q Celsius help the environment?
The use of salt and other chemicals that rust vehicles and pollute groundwater can be dramatically reduced.

How does Q Celsius save money?
The cost of owning a second set of studded tires has been estimated at $163 per automobile per year. Those extra costs can be eliminated.

How does Q Celsius perform vs. standard studded tires?
Independent research has shown the tires incorporating the Q Celsius technology handle better than conventional studded tires on ice.

How does Q Celsius perform on wet and dry roads?
Just like any other all-season tire.

How do Q Celsius tires perform on the USDOT test?
They have passed the standard USDOT FMVSS 109 Endurance test.
