Subaru Legacy Concept 2009
Well, my nightmare has come true. Thanks Subaru for ruining the Legacy. The previous model was the best looking Japanese sedan, now the new model looks like a pile of crap. It is almost as bad as the Lexus hybrid.

Subaru of America, Inc. revealed the 2009 Subaru Legacy Concept at the 2009 North American International Auto Show. The new Subaru Legacy Concept is a hint at the future of Legacy design. The design showcases the sport sedan heritage of the Subaru Legacy, but in more modern and purposeful package.

Marking the 20th anniversary of the Subaru Legacy, the Subaru Legacy Concept has been developed to showcase the Legacy's sporting capabilities and features Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system mated to a Horizontally-Opposed Boxer engine. The design concept is based on a larger 108.3 in. wheelbase designed to maximize interior space and provide comfortable accommodations for four adults.

The theme of concept design is "Presence", represented by the aggressive front facia and solid yet expressive body. Four powerful and defined wheel arches emphasize the dynamism of Symmetrical AWD. Sharp design lines carve out a substantial mass as they flow from the hood, across the roof to the trunk, while the sharp body lines project a sense of strength. Wedge-shaped Side Rear Vision Cameras are featured and provide a sense of flow from the momentum of the A-pillar lines. A character line runs from just before the A-pillar and sweeps up to the tail just above the taillamps.

All that press release garbage can't disguise the fact that the designers have screwed up big time. The only good news is that the Legacy will be getting the 3.6 L H6 engine.

So Martinbo what do you think? I am hoping it will be a cracking car to drive, but right now it doesn't look promising.

I don't understand how the designers can get it so wrong, surely anyone who isn't blind can tell the old car is far more pleasant to the eyes than this new version. What were the designers thinking?



It looks light, agile , athletic and dynamic. The new one looks overweight, and slow.

And I thought we seen the worst of overdesigned Japanese cars. The front fascia of this car certainly takes the cake for the most overworked design we've seen in 18 months.

Monster, I'm not in the least bit worried by this concept. It is after all just that and Subaru's concepts have always been on the wrong end of overdone.

What I can gauge in terms of proportions and stance leaves me feeling pretty relaxed. It's a muscular, bulkier design that the current car - a move that I was anticipating.

I'm looking forward to the production model - I hope some of those odd details remain.

I'm curious about the engine offerings on the car; hopefully we'll see an up-tuned 3.6 L H6 - preferably with DI??
