very true, but I would like to see how the new 135 stacks against these STI and the EVO. I would expect it to be slower but not by much (at least against the vanilla versions).

In a straight line the 135i ought to show both Jap zappers a clean pair of exhaust outlets above 180 km/h.

In pure point to point terms though, the STI and EVO will have the measure of the 135i. They're both just incredibly quick in corners and curves.

I doubt that the 135i will be as quick or even approaching an E46 M3 around a circuit. I stand to be pleasantly surprised, however.

I'm not so sure Andreas - but you know the story with BMWs... Typically, as we've seen with previous BMWs, the efficient 2wd drivetrain and superior aerodynamics of the 135i ought to mean that at high speeds the Beemer will be faster than the less efficient, less aerodynamic (and possibly shorter geared) 4wd road rally specials.

P.S. Did I ever tell you how I recently got murdered by a 335i? Dayyyumn! That car is FAST. From 3rd gear onward it was like I was looking for parking.

^My god, that interior looks years ahead of the EVO X.

Also, the 135 is a different beast from this. This has 5 doors and a 4banger while the 135 is a coupe with the I6-tt. But honestly, If I had a choice between the 135 and the STi, it would be a hard dicision.

^^The front fog lamps are very FL E-class-ish but the overall design of the car is great. It has the family friendly appeal as well as muscular appeal that STi fans like.

Personally, this car reminds me a lot of my favorite STi. This car has a sleek yet agressive design.

Officially Official: Subaru Impreza WRX STI

The wait is finally over. Subaru has released official photos and initial info on the new JDM-spec Impreza WRX STI. Details remain scant, however, as Subaru only tells us that the new STI is powered by a 16v 2.0L boxer with a twin-scroll turbo mated to a 6-speed manual. SI-DRIVE, multi-mode Drivers Control Center Differential (DCCD) and Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) are also standard. All of these things have been widely speculated on and/or reported already. Specific power numbers are conspicuously absent, so we'll have to wait for the rest of it when the car bows in Tokyo in a couple of weeks. Based on what's already been leaked, look for 304 horses and 311 lb-ft of torque in the Japanese-market model. What's no longer a mystery is the car's appearance, which is muscular and aggressive -- a huge improvement over the base WRX. Head to the gallery below to see the car unmasked at last.
