Not bad for a rear wheel drive that is heavier under wet conditions.

Yes, but since the TT is so damn expensive it is best compared to the 123. I guess it would have been a dead race between the 120 and the TT diesel - but then the TT would have been about €10k more expensive and that is a lot when the 120 costs about €28k.

It feels a bit strange when the BMW is the most powerfull in a comparison as they have always had to face competitors packing more heat. I guess it is all owed to a sensible pricing strategy.

Bottom line is that this was very well done by the 123 as they were litterally driving in an inch of water.

The Audi was disappointing in this one!

Well half a second wouldn't kill me. Besides the TT looks so much better than the piggy 1er.

Anecdotally, I have to say that BMW seems to extract more performance from an engine with the same displacement from Audi or MB.

Pricing wise, it is rather unfair to Audi because of the Quattro component which seems to make them more expensive than a comparable BMW.
With that said, I have to admit BMW have somehow priced their vehicles in a such a manner that puts Audi in an interesting spot.

Indeed. Considering the conditionswhich favoured the Audi, under dry conditions, the outcome may have been worse for the TT it seems.

Looks is quite subjective.
Performance is objective.

Re: 5Th Gear: BMW 123d vs Audi TT Tdi (in the wet)

123d needs a experienced driver to beat the TT in lap time. I bet an average driver would actually make the lap faster with the TT.
