Damn, the sheer bias and condescending stigma most of you guys direct against Hyundai blinds you guys from the purpose of that advertisement. The purpose of the ad isn't to try and get 'young thrusting executive men and women' to consider buying the Genesis over a high-end BMW, MB, Audi or other luxury brands. We as humans aspire to belong to a higher socio-economic class. For those of us who drive a Camry, we aspire to some day drive a nice Mercedes or BMW or Audi. For those of us who fly Economy class, we aspire to some day fly Business Class. So what Hyundai's trying to convey in their ad about the Genesis is that they are able to provide the 'average' person with a car that is objectively comparable to the luxo-brands, even if it is just more roomier than a 7er. Of course we all know the Genesis is by no means even half-a-genuine competitor to the 7er/S-class/A8 etc... but the 'average' person will look favourably towards Hyundai and their new Genesis since it can be compared to some big, luxurious German car. As this thread has shown, Hyundai's brand image is a bit tainted by their past reputation, but they are definately making a change for the good, and they are now trying to transform themselves, their cars and their overall image. Eventhough I'm a big 7er fan, the Genesis ad was still very well done in conveying an image of affordable luxury (luxury compared to the likes of a Camry, Mazda 6, Honda Accord and whatever other cars the Genesis may compete with). Even I found it a little annoying hearing them put down the 7er, ..but hey, it must be a fact that the Genesis has more room. Props to Hyundai on that ad...they put forward a simple message, but the additional postitive connotations for the Genesis and the overall Hyundai brand make the ad a fairly well executed one.

From what I have seen I'm confident that this will be a good "affordable" luxury car. There's not too much I can complain about except the aggressive advertising. |

Most ads which deal with numbers have the figures 'twisted' to make the ad more appealing... nothing new there. Even if the Genesis does have 1mm3 more headroom than a 7er, that's still an objective comparison, and a factual advantage that the Genesis provides passengers over the 7er.
