More on the 2008 Smart Fortwo Photos -

Now that we know the Smart Fortwo is coming to the states, we can be heartened that the next-gen model will retain its near-iconic shape and is still roughly the same size as a sack of White Castle hamburgers. That we know from the spy shots of a disguised Fortwo that have been trickling from European e-mail addresses for several months. The company is betting the bauernhof on the model, considering its dumped all others -- the Forfour, the roadster, the el Smart-camino -- in the name of cost cutting. Still, this one, which is slightly larger than its predecessor, will come in diesel, gas and electric variants. We'll see it at the Geneva show next year. DaimlerChrysler is offering the world public a first glimpse of an undisguised successor to the current Smart ForTwo in the form of a sand sculpture. During the German beach volleyball championships in Timmendorf this weekend, Pavel Zasanyok, the three-time sand sculpture world champion from Russia, built the new smart fortwo from sand. The sculpture clearly shows the new design language and in particular the face of the new ultimate two-seater. The new smart fortwo will be presented this autumn and will be available in many markets in the spring. As previously reported, the Smart brand will become available in the United States in early 2008. The next-generation ForTwo has already been spotted in testing (disguised) in America in recent weeks. Gallery after the jump…

The new car looks very similar to the current one, seeing as it's not really selling that well, I wouldn't say that was a very good thing to do, well we'll see what happens....
