Snag with Smart car's steering

Frankfurt - The German-US auto giant DaimlerChrysler has recalled 1 650 of its ultra-compact Smart cars because of a steering defect, a company spokesperson said on Friday.
Owing to faulty assembly of one of the steering components, the cars could become unsteerable in the worst case scenario, spokesperson Wolfgang Zanker said.
The faulty parts were supplied by US car parts maker Delphi.
All of the customers affected had been successfully contacted and provided with a replacement car, so that no faulty vehicles were on the road, the spokesperson said. The model concerned was the two-seater "Smart for two", which has been on the market since April and was seen by Smart as the model to drive it out of loss and back into profit.

I'm sorry if i'll sound bad, but it's a MB's car, regardless of which parts supplier, it still is a MB's car. They control it, they sell it...

In any case, this car was a mistake from the beginning...And apparently it still is...

I am not being patriotic.

True, it is a product of Mercedes but as a manufacturer who also depends on suppliers, it is up to the suppliers to ensure the quality of the products they deliver to whomever.

So if we are going to talk faults here, it is still the fault of Delphi, and indirectly Mercedes. What can Mercedes do? Check every product Delphi delivers to ensure it fits their quality standards? That's time consuming and silly. Mercedes depends on this company for this product and this company screwed up.
