A...a....a fellas what the hell are ya'll talking about? The damn thing is a SL with a stupid as wing on it! Their's NO WAY Mercedes would dress up a SL, call it the SLC and throw it in the ring with the R8 V10. We all know Mercedes isn't one to backdown from a challenge, their probably in the lab as we speak developing their mid-engine supercoupe to war with the R8 as well as the 911! My moneys on this.

Exactly!!
The SL is not an exotic to compete with exotics (it`s a GT convertible), this is the SLRs job.
We probably will see a smaller supercar from MB but it won`t be pinned under the SL, thats for sure. Nice PS btw...

Re: Benz "SLC" prototype spy shots

Does anyone remember the old SLC? It was a longer, hardtop version of the R107.

Relax , the car on the picture is most a pre-production mule for testing an engine, suspension and probably even a gear box. The same way Porsche used the cayenne's body to test the engine ans suspension for the Panamera.

Ha!

Part of what I love about BMW is the "every mans car" image. As where MB is largely reserved for the money of the rich and famous and appears as such, BMW holds to a no compromise product development philosophy that yields some of the most dynamically and visually exciting cars to ever hit the road - that are for the most part accesible. i don't think it takes a bunch of extravagant models and variants with big engines to make for an exciting vehicle, if anything BMW has shown time and time again that indeed more can be done with less(N54 engine, lightweight technologies, E46 M3 CSL, etc.) If a BMW alone isn't sporty enough for you, well, I truly don't know what is??? In the end there's only so much power that can be harnessed to a road car that the everyday driver is capable of handling. Frankly cars like the SLR shouldn't exist, no, not because they're pointless, but because there's only a handful of people that actually know how to drive them.

End of supercars.........for public consumption... absolutely. But notice I said "cars like the SLR". I think there's a huge difference between the drivability of a super car and a car with super car like aspirations. There have always been fast cars, since the beginning of time, and there are people that know how to drive them and many that don't. Of course this is only my argument which doesn't count for much, but I'm more than happy with a below 8 cylinder count motor with a good amount of horsepower, superb torque, mated to a superb chassis that loves corners. Give me that and I'm happy!
