I think a SL Black Series is what this car is. A mini-SLR doesn't seem to make sense, wouldn't it be too similar to the SL?

Yeah this one is pretty much anyone's guess right now. I just question whether or not you can make a serious sports car out of the SL chassis...unless, unless, unless....Mercedes is going a different route for the next SL. Like much lighter and way sportier. I can't see that though. I want a mid-engined sports car from Mercedes a real 911/F430/R8 competitor, not a Aston-Martinish style sportier, but still GT based on the SL. Maybe this is just a mule for testing various parts/systems and not exactly the chassis?

Then again it could be a SL63 AMG, SL63 AMG Black Series etc. Who knows. If a concept is coming next year then we'll know a whole lot more as to where this is going.

It's possible. Just puch the engine back towards the front axle and you got yourself a 599 GTB. Off course it won't perform like an uber mid engined car but it can be damn good.

The face lifted SL55 beat the M6 is a test a few months ago, so the potentail is definetly there. The final product will most likely not memic the SL at all.

Then again a coming out party for the SL facelift with a new Black Series model based on that facelift would be the most awesome thing. We know the new AMG V8 can make 580hp naturally aspirated. If the SL could lose about 300-400lbs and gain like 50hp that would be a hella Black Series SL.

According to GCF the SLC will be based on the next generation SL.

Wow, such incredible news.. I`m guessing this is the SL63 Black-Series with 563hp! remember AMG managed to squeeze 580hp out of the N/A M156 with the AMG modified G7 in a CLK concept. 563hp is very feasible with this engine and the G7. The torque is the same though

I don`t ever recall MB testing a newly designed chassie with a currant model.. (I could be wrong though), On top of that the concept Luwalira posted is not the SL.

The engine of that concept sits behind the front axle. The SL isn`t designed that way. If it were, the hood would have to be elongated much like the SLR,
who`s engine also sits behind the front axle.

I'll be the odd one out and say it's indeed the car HWA is supposedly working on, it's got their rims afterall (from the DTM).

^yep if this is the next MB super car..then its the one HWA is working on..
and that will be nothing short of spectacular..i can bet my balls on that
