Well, the SLR looked like a TVR when it was testing.

Do we really need another supercar?

In this current climate where the environment is a key issue you have to accept the logic that no matter what arrives from who - There will also be the negative attribute about it's environmental and commercial credentials. (Paris Hilton was arrested once before in her SLR) Veyron was just ego - all power , all speed record and all in another manufacturers core business. no wonder Porsche want to kill it.

Take "Efficient Dynamics"for example : Germans like to have power but also like to be seen as responsible when such concerns happen sespecially with the current global warning issues. "Efficient Dynamics" is very much responsible for BMW's latest sales results as this this shows that it can still be a performance car company but do it's bit towards the environment .
"Efficient Dynamics" has left it's rivals in the dust as the most marketed concept in keeping your core status whilst being socially responsible.
And the public love this.

A supercar is not essential (yet) to BMW , but if F1 becomes successful they may celebrate . For now it is the full concentration of X6 , F5 , Z8/Z10 Roadsters , Production CS,Concept and of course the social responsible small performance car the BMW 1er Coupe and Cabrio. You have no idea how much interest and orders there are for the 1er Coupe - worldwide and rising by the day.

Efficient Dynamics? My ass. IMO there is nothing efficient or environmental friendly about a V8 engine which should constantly be revved(burning gas like a G5) to 7-8k RPM. Neither do I see anything socially responsibly about having three 2 ton SUV in BMW's line up. Further more I can't see how celebs can negatively effect a super car. So what if Paris crashed her SLR, people don't love the car less for that.

All the "care for the climate" politicians are hypocrites. Just look at Al Gore's workspace. Three 30 inch Cinema displays and a 36 inch Sharp HDTV. ***!! He's the biggest hypocrite of them all so can be please keep the climate/environmental talk out of the discussion thank you.






After all we car fanatics don't care about how much gas a Veyron, CL600 or Zonda drinks at full throttle, we want to drive them regardless.

Perhaps we should create a thread just for BMW propaganda...instead of using this one.

AMS claims this GT-style car - no name known yet - equipped with 620HP 6.2L V8 engine will come in 2010, and won't be named SLC. Planned sales: 3000 - 5000 units per year, price: 140k - 200k Euros.

AMS also claims SLC (coming in Summer 2008) will be a special leightweight (100kg lighter) 700HP version based on facelifted / upcoming SL63 AMG. This lightweight version engineered by HWA AG will be 100kg lighter than SL63 AMG, and will come with fixed CF roof.

Normally I'd say leave the past where it belongs, but damn that new age version of the ??? is amazing!

Back to the future

This report makes the most sense with the intelligence that has been circulating so far. The red car pictured here must be the replacement for the SLR, although power ratings are low--this car is rumored to have up to 1000 horses.

The SLC, as reported here, also makes much more sense than reported lately elsewhere. It must be to the SL what the DBS is to the DB9. Except that it does not make much sense for MB to create a supercar based on the Black Series (itself a special vehicle to start with) since the upcoming black series will still be based on the current chasis.

One important observation on my part. The "SLC" pictures that have been circulating at worldcarfans.com for a while are definitely not of a model that is based on a current SL, as the car is longer. Thus, that mule must be of the SLR replacement (the gullwing displayed above).

All this is good news, with two supercars in MB's future.

If you ask me 620hp is quite a lot for a car priced around 140k. That's 100hp more than than Gallardo and 997GT2. The power for that price will be satisfactory when the car is launched.
