I like this car, and if I wanted to waste money I'd probably buy one. The top is pretty cool too, its shape is decent thanks to that as-yet-named "special" material they used for its construction.

Actually, the concept car of the SLR (called "Vision SLR") was a roadster, not a coupé. So one could say the SLR was originally designed as a roadster...
I think it looks stunning... especially in that deep blue colour with the tan leather seats

Actually there were both coupé and roadster concepts.

^^ Oops, my mistake... Thanks for clearing that out, bmer!
I remember seeing the first pictures of the roadster in a car magazine, back in 1999. That's probably why I don't remember the coupé concept...
In the picture you posted, the roadster looks better than the coupé, IMHO.
The roof line of the coupé doesn't flow with the back of the car, don't you think? The final production version of the coupé looks way better.

Yeh, the rear, especially the trunk design, is much better in the production car. For some reason the front looks much longer in the coupé, it must be a visual illusion.

Looks extremely good to me... But, you could also get a Pagani Zonda Roadster or some other rare cars.... So this SLR wouldn't be my first choice, if I like to have a high perfomance convertible!
