Yes a SL55 Black Series would be awesome indeed. Lose a few pounds, re-tune the suspension and drop in the engine from the standard SLR, 626hp?

Two quick things that have come into mind after reading some of the P.R. for the AMG P.S.

- It's about time AMG starts producing a lightweight series that can take on the M cars from BMW. I'm sure BMW will respond with an M coupe CSL.

- I think AMG taking on all these various entities is diluting the brand just a little, if AMG is to stand for high performance , let that be high performance, not turning CLS55's into barbie mobiles. I'm sure this new concept will all gel soon enough.

Now, I have a reason to like the SLK again.

Changing gears fast is just one factor, being efficient is where automatics really suck. No matter how you cut it, the bottom line is in slush boxes there are no direct mechanical link between the engine side and the wheel side, just a viscous fluid, -hence the term 'slush' box. So no matter how Merc marketing spins it, it is never going to be as good a manual or SMG or a DSG. How many race cars - including Merc- do you know that have a "slush box"? So if AMG is really serious about performance, get a manual tranny.

They're working on a DSG tranny. It is my person belief that MB believes that stick shifts inconveince the driver, which isn't very fitting for brand virtues.

Woah woah... €107k EU?

Now look. I know there's a price to be paid for exclusivity, but this is a seriously nutso price when you consider that the SLK55 goes for about €62k EU or so.

I give AMG real credit for doing a very limited edition with some truely special modifications, but when you're getting into this kind of bonkers price range I think we deserve a special nameplate on the bumper (SLK55b perhaps).

I agree Osna. From a car fanatics point of view this is a favorable idea for an AMG car finally turned into fruition, but in the practical sense there are even better cars for that kind of money.
