Why?.

Re: Same Question , Different response.

I am emphasising on the concept "SuperSports" variants of the 1er Coupe .

Re: Same Question , Different response.

So now that we've got that straightened out, let's get back to the original point of this post. I for one am excited by the prospect of a light 1'er with a turbo four!

To combat the question of what to do further to progress the 1er Coupe has resulted in a back to basics formula resulting in the creation of the
"SuperSports" model. Limited to the Coupe and only with the 120i (four cylinder turbo) and 135i will be a specific performance addition resulting in the use of lightweight materials such as a Carbon Fibre Roof and bootlid , loss of certain cabin comforts , upgraded suspension and brakes , lightweight glass , all the creative and performance comforts created for the M variant but not under full MotorSport badging , a different body kit will differintate the SuperSports from the regular BMW Performance Package and that includes brake and additional preformance upgrades .
BMW Performance will be individual from the SuperSports programme.....
Very informative post. So the bottom line is that in 2010, the 135i will get a power upgrade (not a surprise), and the "SuperSports" version will debut with a weight loss program and upgraded suspension/brakes. I agree with BMW Power's post..........it sounds like a "CSL" version, but without the official M designation, just like the current 135i with M-sport pack is like a "M" version already, but not in name.

Oh well, this thread has really raised my hopes for some sort of great drivers machine in the 1-series!

Re: Same Question , Different response.

Excellent news. This is the type of car that's missing in BMW's lineup, something close to a sports car. With the maturity of the M3, there is nothing that resembles the E46 M3 in spirit. The M3 is now a four seater GT and doesn't posses the near exotic qualities of the E46 M3. Adding a metal folding roof to the Z4 has placed it further away from the sports roadster it is now.

A 1er on steroids can turn out to be a great success that can deter people from buying a used M3 in search for something fast and tight. The Porsche Cayman fulfils the same needs, it's very capable and nimble like the sports car were during the 90s. I fully welcome this good news that will help balance the growing truck/MPV bias in the BMW line-up.

Re: Same Question , Different response.

Yes, if this can get close to what the Cayman S delivers and delivers it for a good chunk less then we have a winner.

With a good diet and some enhancements it won't be too far off, a 0-100km/h time of around 4.7-4.8 should be very satisfactory.
