Re: SPIED: VW Scirocco - 07-19-2007, 09:58 AM

So ...

Will VW offer both 3dr Scirocco, and 3dr Golf / Rabbit / GTI?

Both of similar size, similar engines, similar shape (3dr hatch) yet different styling.

Is that really a good idea?

In the past Scirocco / Corrado differed more from the Golf - design, size, and price wise. And don't forget the Eos - the Coupe/Cabrio. What a crowd.

Will 3dr Golf be ditched?

We don't even know anything about Golf VI, so i'd say it's too early to say anything. Scirocco will debut after Golf so i'm somehow sure they know what they're doing...

The Scirocco will be a coupé GTI so to speak. The 3-door GTI sits a little too tall, even if it has 2 doors like the Scirocco. I see this selling very well, I expect it to be sportier than the GTI.

Maybe it can be placed alongside the Eos. So cabriolet and coupé in a upper market segment than the Golfs.

According to some reports Winterkorn was not happy with the design of the Scirocco (and i can't blame him really) so he ordered for a redesign.

So my guess is that Scirocco (if made) will be different than the concept.

So why the testing prototype looks almost the same as the Concept???

Even the grille looks very similar to the one on the Concept car.

Could it be all reports about "Winterkorn ordered redesigns" were false, and just a fruit of wild imagination? VAG never commented such claims.

I beleive the Scirocco is longer and wider than the Golf not to mention the different looks. Further more it will be more expensive than a Golf. Think of it as a Golf coupe.

So, why not a more coupe-ish shape then (and less hatch-ish)? At least something similar to the Corrado.

Good to see that are keeping the concept looks, I wonder if they will offer the green paint job!

The Corrado was also a Hatchback.

-A Hatchback with a Coupé-ish shape. Just like the original Scirocco.
