the best AMG ive driven was the old 560sel AMG...

that was a monster

Technically, it was still a standard 560SEL with some AMG bodykit modifications. The Europea 560SE's and SEL's had 300-hp (or 242-hp in the US where the KAT's were attached).

well i have driven both standard 560 sel and an amg 560 sel and i noticed a huge diffrence..... both cars were here in the middle east and puchased at about the same time... and i regularly drove them...

i didnt notice much of a body kit on the amg car... ecsept it had 2 antena's in the back on the boot as the standard had one

Well, among the modifications AMG undertook was some suspension modification as well as a tightening of the steering response if I am not mistaken. Obviously you'd feel a difference.

How'd the 560SEL AMG engine feel like?

oh so they modified some stuff... well good work amg.

out of every car i have driven in my life...i have to rank the 560 as the best... so much power and a joy to drive...

what was the HP on them????

somebody correct my history, but was there some inflation in germany betweern W125 and W140 eras? prices jumped a lot

and another thing notice how dashboards start out wide, then regress as technology centralizes functions in more compact button (i.e. a dial for low, high and medium, instead of 3 separate buttons for the Ac for example) but after time it widens again as major new technologies are incorporated, only tor egress again in width as these are centralized (W140 vs W220, with the need of navigation and monitors)

A stock European 560SEL had 300-hp. As far as I know, AMG didn't really touch the engine so the horsepower output should have been 300. I need to consort my Mercedes bibles at home.

The W126 was pretty much a stripper model in all regards whereas the W140 came with more options. Prices also increased I believe because of the reunifaction of West and East Germany.

but you aer talking of a price increase in excedent of 100%, level of increase associated generally with national inflation or a reevalutaion of the national currency
not just increases in option. very early stock W140's had little more than comparable W126's

The unification of Germany did force the reevaluation of the German Mark if I recall correctly. I'm sure the collapse of communism in Eastern Europe had worldwide monetary effects and hence the price differences.

I don't know too much about that period as I was only 8 years old and never bothered to read up on the subject. All I can tell you is that Germany won the 1990 World Cup in Italy.
