I thought I had read once where the S600 was going to be de-tuned to about 480hp for 4Matic guise long time ago before the W221 debuted? M |

That roumor is new to me. I believe the issue with the 600 and 4-matic for the 220 was the lack of pakaging space for the extra differential, and not the strength of the [5 speed] transmission. Now according to the 4-matic press release, they have incorporated the transmission [now 7 speed] more closely to the 4-matic, solving packaging issues. In addition, due to the guidelines of front design in Europe (the S already complies to them), the hood is considerably higher and therefore there is plenty more space beneath. So, now it may be just be an image issue rather than a technical one. |
