Not that it's any of my business but I'd rather wait until the car has been out for at least 6 months because changes will be made to the car (although minor). To be on the safeside, I'd wait a production date that is a year after the initial launch. Until then, enjoy your W220!

The point is that the car was released for European sales in November I think, and scheduled for release in the states the first week in February. Orders have been piling up since late in the year from the US so someone knew what the demand level was...they don't wait until they start building the US model to order the parts. April is the earliest with someone indicating July for some items. Add 6-8 weeks once your order is final and the car is delivered. My gripe is if they were not ready to support exisiting orders, how were they going to fill the new demand upon introduction. Somebody was asleep and outsourcing or internal the production should have been at a level to support the release of the car. If not, they should have delayed the US release until they had their ducks in order.

Just a little rant...I am not really that upset since my W220 is brand new and I can just delay the arrival of the newest and best S later in the year.

I have never bought into that "never buy the early model" stuff. I am an early adopter by nature whether it be cars or cameras or toasters. The only reason I am hyped on the new S other than the styling is the technology improvements.

But you are right...I can enjoy my W220 while Dieter gets his vendors butts in line and the custom ordered cars starts being delivered in the normal 6 week time frame. There will be many non-option floor buyers to keep the line going for dealers who depend on the S to make some money for them.

Maybe so but here's an example that might change your mind. The E90 made from May to September and Sept. afterwards.
-The earlier models sound system did not accept MP3. They had to wait to get a new update (which from what I hear is not a fun experience)
- One of the complaints that the E90 got is the positioning of the electric window buttons. They are placed too far from the driver because they are so far ahead. The door handle also block the way. Post-September models do not have the handles (not the actual ones that open the door).

Like I said, minor things.
