Next year, Mercedes is going to introduce a four cylinder twin-turbo diesel engine in S-class. The 2.2 litre engine has 204hp and shall only have a consumtion of 6.6 l/100km in EU combined cycle. Article in german:

Lol and come with cloth seats? Although a 2.2L engine in an S-class turns me off, I'm pretty confident the torque developed by that diesel engine will be sufficient enough go get the car up and running.

I don't doubt that as well, but somehow i think the S won't be that exclusive anymore... 4cyl W221 S? How does it sound to you? Or how about 720d?

Right, that can be only reason for all of this and probably it is, but still... I don't like that. I was also surprised when i found out (not so long ago!) that there was a S280 (W220!) as well... I think it was for Asian and African market, but i'm sure i'm slightly wrong though. For some other market(s) as well...

Oh well, like they care for me anyways...

there has been lower engines than 320 in the S before..but its for other markets..
not for us or europe..so if this has the same destiny im happy..
but if we get this in europe its a freakin disgrace..

It's so hard to find a Diesel Engine Mercedes S-Klass (W126-W140-W220) in Chinese market.

There is a S280 W221 model on sale in the UK now. It is not as slow as some would have you think (0-60 in 7.3s, top speed limited to 155mph).
