"Rappers, man, too many rappers. I should know." Pharrell Williams can see the irony. Here he is, the hip-hopper who is so hip it hurts, discussing how his favorite cars, the Rolls-Royce Phantom and Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe, have become too popular -- with rappers.
"In the early days, the cars were rarities," he says. Williams bought one of the first Phantoms and stuck it centre stage in his Drop it like it's Hot video. But turn on MTV now and every rapper and his Snoop Dogg, he says, has one. "They're kind of ubiquitous." But he's not giving up. "The saving grace is: it's still a Rolls. It's still got those details that no-one else does."

"The McLaren Mercedes is my favorite because it handles like an S Class when you want it to, but it is, in fact, an F1 car. It's a supercar you can use every day.""
This what I've been telling you SLR haters all the time. Just because the SLR isn't a sporty as a CGT or Enzo it doesn't mean that the car is a failure. The car has it's special purpose just like Pharell has outlined here. The car is highly usable on a daily basis even people like Paris Hilton used it everyday on the harsh roads of LA. | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to Centurion For This Useful Post: | | | Trendsetter

Personally, I can't see why some people have a problem with the Hip Hop love affair with Rolls-Royce -- some people are just too snobbish -- they need to get over themselves. | | | | | Expert

They have problems accepting hiphop as an art form which is what it really is. During the recent 5-10 years hiphop/rap as genre has rise to levels higher than any other music genre. These days rappers the few artist that manage to sell over over one million copies in the US during the first launch week of a new album. Hiphop has made it's way into pop as well. Pretty much all your conventional pop artist like Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado all consult hiphop producers like Pharell, Timberland, Scott Storch, Rodney Jerkins, Nate Hill and Stargate for production of new albums. | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to Centurion For This Useful Post: | | | Trendsetter

And another thing, if he dreams about the Veyron, why hasn't he got one by now? | | | | | Devotee

^^
That's the problems, people are naive and can't see past what's on the surface. There's much more to hiphop than just flaunting money. Quote:

I don't think other music styles which originated from the African American community (soul, blues...) suffer from the same image problem. | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to MikeJ For This Useful Post: | | | Contributor
