I'm just guessing that you're not really into Hip Hop in a big way Marcus -- I think it has become a stereotype that all black people are crazy about Hip Hop.

The thing is, Hip Hop is so huge now, it is a true global cultural phenomenon.

Well i'm at 3 or 4 max,i never liked that music that much or hated i either,but i have to be honest here and i hope i don't trigger anyone's reaction, it's mostly coz of the looks of rappers..i never liked their look or style but i do respect their audience and popularity base in the world.

Stop hating hip hop. It has the same effect on society as movies and any other sort of media

Pharrell is different from most rappers though -- he is a naturally stylish guy -- he doesn't come across as fake and arrogant like some rappers.

I'm like you Tarek, I probably would rate about 4 in my general appreciation of most Hip Hop music -- but one of my favourite songs of the past decade is Crazy In Love by Beyoncé and Jay Z -- but Beyoncé has true star quality -- she would be a star in any era -- her performance with Tina Turner at the Grammys was fantastic.

I love how everyone likes to point the finger at hip hop for cultural decline/issues. Fact of the matter is that there are other forms of entertainment that are even worse, but no one makes acknowledgment or if they do they don't get nearly as bad a wrap as hip hop. I'm not saying hip hop artists are saints, they're much like anyone else, but there's a problem when you make them look like they're "the only ones doing it". As history shows us though society always has to have scape goats.

As for Pharell; the man is a freaking genius. From day one Neptunes/N.E.R.D. have always had a very unique and original sound with many failed attempts of duplication by other mainstream producers and indie artists and musicians. Hell, Timbo completely reinvented his sound after Pharell & Chad Hugo took innovative music production by storm and snatched every mainstream artist for successive hit after hit. Simply put Pharell and Chad are the sh!t.

Yes i agree,there's far more worse forms audio or visual arts out there but i bet none of them is as popular as hip hop.All in all i'm not generalizing every art has it's good and bad specimens
