Renault Megane: Leaked!

Leaked: 2009 Renault Megane
Posted on Monday 1 September 2008

Renault’s all-new Megane five-door hatch has been leaked ahead of its official debut planned for next month’s Paris Motor Show. Following the launch of the hatch, Renault is set to follow it up with a number of different variants including a new performance model and a long-wheelbase version.

Images of the new range have been circulating around the Internet for the past month following an incident where a number of official images were leaked from Europe’s patents and trademarks office. The latest set of images, courtesy of Spanish website km77, reveals that the Megane shares much in common with the previous Megane Coupe Concept as well as the new Laguna.
No official specs have been released but the engine lineup from the current model is expected to carry over largely unchanged. This means that the new Megane should feature a range of petrol engines displacing between 1.6 and 2.0L and developing up to 225hp (168kW) in performance models. A new 1.2L TCE engine, currently powering the Clio, is also likely to make its way into an entry-level Megane. Diesel fans will be able to choose from the current 1.5 and 1.9 dCi turbodiesel units.
The new range should go on sale in Europe shortly after the car’s debut in Paris next month.

Re: Renault Megane: Leaked!

Much better than the new VW Golf - which looks like an "Ultimate Grandpa Machine".

Sadly this Megan is still a Reanult only.

Re: Renault Megane: Leaked!

The current Megane is so repulsive that the new one will surely be an improvement.

Grandpa car or not it will never make it to any "100 ugliest cars of all time" list.

I assume he's talking about quality and reliability issues. It's nowhere near as good as its main competitors (Golf, Auris, Astra, Focus).

I'm not big on cars in this class but it has a sporty appeal that I like.

The list by journalist @ Telegraph?
Eh, give me break.

VW are heading to appeal to 60+ generation only with their core models. Shame!

While younger bunch will be left with their "funky" ones: eg. Scirocco, Eos, Beetle, Lupo, Passat CC etc.
While Polo, Golf / Jetta, Passat, Touran, Tiguan & Touareg will appeal to people with myopia of -10.0 or more.

This reanult is up-to-date with it's styling. So are the competitors (Peugeot, Mazda, Ford, Citroen, Opel etc), while VW's core models are heading into opposite way: tarting to be more & more convetnional.

Even Skoda is starting to show sedating designs lately, not to mention Seat's move to rebadge B7 Audi A4.

Don't you thing WdS is a bit too old-fashioned to lead design stuidos in such big company as VW?
